I am currently revisiting many of my writing projects, hoping to find a renewed sense of purpose and direction. As I delve back into these works, I also reflect on their original intentions. I have faced various challenges over the past few years including mental health struggles and a feeling of being lost. But I feel that I have turned a corner and am ready to get back to work. Unfortunately, it was too late for me to actively campaign during the recent UK general election, although I did make some minimal efforts towards the end.
The intention behind my substack has always been, along with my podcast, to expose the inner workings of big business, media, and politics; how they use data-driven marketing tactics coupled with AI and behavioural science to manipulate and influence public opinion, potentially at the cost of our rights. My substack inadvertently shifted towards discussions on how individuals can promote their ideas, small businesses, or causes through growth hacking techniques. This is partly because when I look at this document which I am currently writing (it now contains over 38k words), I notice that most of it focuses on digital marketing strategies driven by data and behaviour. My initial plan was to write a book on these topics to help campaigners and small businesses achieve results and gain attention using growth hacking methods.
However, I have decided to bring the focus back to discussing digital rights and providing insight into how campaigners can stand out in a world where shadow banning exists. Additionally, I want to examine how we are being influenced and potentially controlled by big business, media, and political agendas. This will include analysing techniques and technologies used as well as exploring behavioural science and its role in shaping conversations and campaigns. By controlling "the frame" or language surrounding a particular issue or debate, one can ultimately control the outcome of that conversation.
Although I am working on other projects such as investigating the insomnia self-help industry through my substack and support group at insomniachat.com, I will continue to write about these subjects in the upcoming months, especially with the fate of the US and Western world hanging in the balance. I intend to frame my writing and podcast discussions around "framing," as this is a topic that can be analysed and discussed but is not currently being explored in mainstream media. I will also delve into the techniques and technologies that underlie this concept.
I will not be fact-checking or directly combating lies, unless they are false, but rather focusing on not just what is being said, but how it is being framed and what that reveals about the agenda and behavioural personality of the source, as well as the behaviours they are trying to elicit from their audience.
This is a live book writing project. Copyright is protected. It is a first rough draft so I would love to hear any feedback from readers. When the book is launched all that are signed up for this substack project will be sent a free Kindle copy of the book as a thank you for subscribing.
